Try this photo effects and editing site called tuxpi.com. It has 58 different editing tools with numerous picture frames. I uploaded a photo of a student and put her on a postage stamp frame. It was quick and easy. I think I will have students choose someone they think is important and have them create a postage stamp for them. They will have to explain why this person deserves to be on a stamp. If you have used Tuxpi.com please let me know how you have used the site in your classroom.

What to "wire" up your math lessons? Then visit MathWire. This website contains standards-based math activities. I just checked out the activities for the month of December. The site has a variety of themed math activities. I particularly liked the whole Snowman unit. CHECK IT OUT!

Math TV

While looking through the Smarttech site I found a fantastic math site called Math Playground. It features wonderful games and math activities for math practice. The bonus is that this site should work wonderfully on a smartboard. I also learned through the newsletter from Teachers Love Smartboards that Math Playground has a section called Math TV. Math TV has video word problems. Each math problem comes with step by step video solution, follow up problems, an online calculator, and sketch pad. It's another great way to use your smartboard.

Scholastic's Computer Lab Favorites

Scholastic.com has always been one of my favorites site. I always check out the site to see "what's new to me" at the beginning of the school year. I really love their Computer Lab Favorites. Teachers or students can choose between the fifty short (15-30) activities on the site. Science activities like "States of Matter" can be used for introducing the science concept. Bookmark the site for students to practice skills in academic areas. The site also has activities in Spanish.

Teaching students how to read a ruler is tough on a good. It is a grea help when you have a visual for them to see in addition to the numberline or ruler on their desk.
